IV Cannabidiol (CBD)

Cannabidiol, is one of the main components of the Cannabis sativa plant, which has been used medicinally for thousands of years by many cultures, but has only recently begun to become more appreciated in western cultures such as the United States for its health-promoting benefits.

It is important to note that CBD and other cannabinoids are considered dietary supplements by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA), even if they are administered intravenously.

The intravenous form of CBD we use is the first, and currently only, IV CBD product available. It is derived from industrial hemp grown in the United States, is completely sterile, and is third-party tested for quality and purity. Given intravenously, it offers nearly 100% systemic absorption.

Research suggests that CBD has potential for cancer treatment. In fact, studies have shown that CBD likely addresses many of the key pathways associated with cancer. More specifically, research involving CBD alone and in conjunction with other agents has found that it successfully induces cancer cell death, decreases tumor size, promotes tumor regression, and inhibits the ability of cancer cells to migrate and invade.

In addition, research has shown that CBD supports healthy sleep, eases occasional aches and pains, and helps soothe feelings of anxiety.

Many patients don’t feel any immediate effects from CBD administration, but it is possible to have a mild euphoric feeling. When this occurs, it typically subsides within 1-2 hours.

Please note that the intravenous CBD we use contains 0.0% delta-9 THC, and is legal in all 50 states. This is very important to understand, as CBD cannot produce any hallucinogenic effects commonly associated with marijuana. In other words, you cannot get “high” from CBD!

IV Cannabidiol Anti-Cancer Mechanisms

CB1 Receptors

Primarily localized in the central nervous system, CB1 regulates neurotransmitters. CBD's interaction with CB1 can down-regulate vital cancer survival pathways—such as RAS/MAPK and PI3K/AKT—effectively arresting the cell cycle and stopping proliferation. (1, 2)

CB2 Receptors

Primarily located on immune and inflammatory cells, CB2 is frequently over-expressed in various tumors (like breast cancer and gliomas). CBD's activity via CB2 can trigger apoptosis through ceramide synthesis and modulate the tumor microenvironment to suppress inflammation that otherwise aids tumor progression. (3)

Pro-Apoptotic

CBD suppresses standard inhibitors of apoptosis (like survivin) and activates pro-apoptotic proteins like NOXA, BAD, and BAX, forcing cancer cells to self-destruct. (4)

Autophagy Induction

CBD downregulates the AKT/mTOR pathway, a primary signaling cascade that cancer cells use to survive and replicate. Inhibiting this pathway triggers intracellular stress and autophagic cell death. (5)

Anti-Angiogenesis

Tumors require new blood vessels to grow. CBD suppresses vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), effectively starving the tumor of the blood supply needed for expansion.

Anti-Metastatic

By blocking receptors like GPR55, CBD inhibits the migration, invasion, and tissue-adherence of aggressive cancer cells. (6)
